#WritingTheOtherResources Video: Who's Consuming Whom?
Award-winning authors and editors Aliette de Bodard, Amal El-Mohtar, and Michi Trota dig into the dynamics behind cultural appropriation in speculative fiction and publishing. In this discussion they touch on colonialism, consumption, and how it all relates to writing the "Other".

Technically, one of the major authors would be a lesser queer too, by the ex's reckoning, but part of being an abusive ex is being charismatic when the inferiors have something you want. I want to warn them, but I know they wouldn't listen. I wouldn't have listened.
Maybe they are good mainstream, gatekeeper gay and lesbian rep, I wouldn't know. They made very clear I am improperly queer, and as one of the improper, lesser queers my place was serving the real queers and being grateful for being let in at all.

Even if you don't read court opinions this preliminary injunction overruling FLs stupid ban on gender affirming care for minors is worth a read.
"The elephant in the room should be noted at the outset. Gender identity is real."
"Any proponent of the challenged statute and rules should put up or shut up... Dog whistles ought not be tolerated."
"If ever a pot called a kettle black, it is here. The statute and the rules were an exercise in politics, not good medicine."

Day 1 of 30 Days of #QueerBooks:
REFUSING COMPULSORY SEXUALITY: A BLACK ASEXUAL LENS ON OUR SEX-OBSESSED CULTURE by Sherronda J. Brown
Thorough, insightful, and honestly life-changing. This book comes from a #queer, #asexual perspective with clear analyses of what we consider "normal" amounts of sex and formulations of romance, and why, and how that's enforced by straight culture.

Day 2: BABEL-17 by Samuel Delany
Hugo Award winner in 1967 and deserved it. Enthusiastic, energetic, and joyfully imaginative, it takes #linguistics ideas Delany clearly thoight were So Cool and absolutely runs with them.
Captain Rydra Wong is #bisexual, #polyamorous, Asian, autistic, and the greatest and most famous linguist, poet, and codebreaker in the galaxy. And she’s great I love her.
(also all starship pilots are 10-foot-tall furries)
Well, that was a disappointing novel. Free-on-amazon, so it's not like I had high standards. You advertise Sci-fi vampire shifter romance (explicitly! Those words!) on the cover and deliver whiny steam-flavored Omegaverse fantasy that is *really* (but not effectively or interestingly) struggling with the noncon inherent in that setup, and yup. That's a disappointment!
“There’s no clever handling of the system, no scrying out of loopholes, no incisive interpretation of the law. There’s just ignoring it and daring someone to do something about it. SCOTUS’s new motto is basically Lol What Are You Gonna Do About It? in Latin.”

Read an article today about why Americans think alcohol has health benefits and it's apparently another "well the French are healthy and they do X so it's healthy to do X."
So here's your periodic reminder that France (and Italy, and Sweden, and Japan, and basically every country you've seen in a "this country is so healthy, what's their secret?" headline) has universal health care.
The secret is access to health care. It's always access to health care.

I acquired (with help) a killer audio cassette digitizing rig, and then IMMEDIATELY had to spend over 2 months digitizing 90+ cassettes from the 1999 Game Developers Conference (via a slow-and-steady workflow that got the job done without being too disruptive to any other work I was doing).
So, here we are, it's done. Go enjoy 70+ hours of presentations about all aspects of game making and producing, in 1999.
