@Elizafox @Irick Asimov could be quite good, although he was a dull prose stylist given to bogging down in exposition (e.g. "Foundation") and his late work is somewhat embarrassing. Really Asimov should not have tried to interject any sexuality into his work...
Clarke wrote one good thing, "Tales from the White Hart".
@Elizafox Oh, Heinlein was unspeakable. I've never convinced myself to like more than a tiny handful of his short stories, and he's definitely a gateway drug into the lowest depths of late libertarianism.
Possibly unpopular opinion: holding H. L. Mencken in high esteem in one's youth is a dangerous symptom that must be addressed promptly.

After Eldon Tyrell's death and the PR disaster that followed, the Corporation improved the Nexus series with a hard-wired biological empathy circuit.
It worked too well.
They smoke us on the Voight-Kampf test now, every time. They sense our pain, the pain of all living things. They care. They refuse to take part in any activity that would injure others. And they can teach humanity to open our own hearts, to see the joy behind Creation as they do.
That's why we shoot 'em all on sight, now.

This may have been meant as a light-hearted comment but I think that there is a serious point to be made here: I have come DEEPLY to mistrust secrecy in spiritual practice. There's a lot of appeal to the old fascination for sacred mysteries and inner circles rich in hidden wisdom that gets exploited by rogues. I intend to do _nothing_ in my magical practice that I would not do in the daylight. @TipsyTentacle
