Zoötopia

I propose that the first couple of victims of the crisis weren't Bellwether's doing but accidental poisonings. The incompetent Lionheart dealt with the problem in a strictly punitive way, locking the patients up away from the public eye because his sole concern was of maintaining a superficial appearance of calm and order. But probing into the first cases is how Bellwether discovers the cause, hence prompting her to start plotting the embarrassment of the mayor and the police.

Zoötopia

Considering an alternate headcanon to make a bit less problematical for me, in which Bellwether's scheme arises from frustration with the state's callous treatment of citizens who've been done for some minor offence. She befriends the sheep who wind up carrying out the Nighthowler crimes because she had once tried to help them find a livelihood after their conviction for petty crimes only to find that Zoötopia has no place for them now.

I have a silly idea that one could derive what we think of as "sociology" from a model of individual human psychology after the fashion of statistical mechanics. Derived laws about behavior in bulk by analysing the distribution of individual behavior.

This was interesting, especially when thinking about pluralism. I think @kara_dreamer would find it interesting too. youtube.com/watch?v=wfYbgdo8e-

@mona there's a plant in Institute, WA that had an explosion in 2008 that *nearly* punctured a tank with 6.2 t of methyl isothiocyanate youtube.com/watch?v=bcfvzGtuam

Undertale, personal stuff, Flowey

So I can sort of see Flowey now as someone who could have been an endpoint for me--a bitter, self-hating "male" who went around convinced that he was the bee's knees because he and only he truly grasped how disgusting we all are. That could have been me. That could have been [Deadname]. But Chara wanted more...they wanted to be happy. I want to be happy. I want to smile in the face of defeat, because then at least I'll be smiling.

Undertale, personal stuff, Flowey

And that's kinda Flowey's thing, isn't it? You know how some people (white cis male atheists tend to fall into this trap) when they get disillusioned with a thing (a religion, a philosophy, even just a movie or a game), they go totally _apeshit_ in _insisting_ that nobody gets to enjoy it either? That's Flowey. They fucked up, experienced pain, and that "proved" to them that life is pain and they're the only guy smart enough to realize that. and if he has to, he'll inflict the pain himself...because that's what happens if you pride yourself on accepting that life is pain but none of your friends do. You start hurting them.

Undertale, transstuff

I had to pause the stream after finishing up with Asriel. I don't think anyone was actually listening when I broke down...but I've got a recording *wry smile*

Speaking with Asriel felt like...speaking to my pre-transition self. He tried so hard, [Deadname] did. Nothing made sense to him but he tried so fucking hard to _make_ it make sense. He didn't do the best job, and he hurt some people, just like Asriel / Flowey hurt people. And when I finally woke up...[Deadname] realized it was time to step aside. He didn't stick around like Flowey, trying to _prove_ there's no point in being happy, responding to misery with misery.

how much farther along would we be right now if that brainpower and those labor hours were invested in LITERALLY ANYTHING other than 'how can we make more money from this'

Trying to do 15 reactions this afternoon. Next step: Measure our reagents into each and every one of these.

I would stream this, but since we got new grad students there are a few too many people around.

That's it everyone, ditch Discord, back to IRC!

pictured is @kara_dreamer, with a new friend she purchased for me.

Reading chemical articles on Wikipedia makes me want to burn the entire thing down.

organizing

since i didn't say, i'm currently working on this here affordableseattle.net/ which i urge all Seattleites to visit.

above and beyond legislative and electoral efforts, if we really get a good response from folks, we'd love to help build solid tenant organizations and get some fuckin' _rent strikes_ up in here.

down with the rentier class, housing is a human right!
