Has any of y'all ever tried a dating site?
@teaduckie met my partner of the last 6 years on okcupid actually. it'd been going terribly until then.
@caltissue I just installed okcupid myself. I'm not sure I understand how it works. All I know is that apparently I have a like XD.
@teaduckie oh wow good luck!! be strong lol. a lot of online dating is awful bc of the sheer numbers involved. yr mileage may vary
@caltissue Thank you :). It kinda messes with my self-esteem a little bit when I get for instance a match on Tinder and then after a "how are you?" They remove me as a match. Like, they might think I'm boring without even knowing me.
@teaduckie ugh ive had such a similar exp using dating sites so i relate. i never used tinder but on okc i sent dozens of messages, got maybe 3 replies ever? none of them even led to a first date. my now-partner messaged me first so basically all my attempts to initiate conversations were useless. i realize im not selling you on the experience here? if it starts to feel bad i encourage you to take a break from it ASAP lol
@caltissue Haha, It's not the best sales pitch ever but I see what you mean :). The thing is I have very slim chances of meeting people IRL... I don't want it to be the same on the internet
@teaduckie i FEEL u there. fwiw ive had a lot more success on like, meetup.com finding friend groups than i have trying to date on dating sites
@caltissue I think the only thing I'm getting from all this is that I'm feeling more stupid, lonelier and more depressed ^^U
@teaduckie that's exactly how social media makes ME feel as well! when are we getting coffee lol. but for real that's exactly why im off FB and IG and limit time on reddite, and why i always try things like this site when i learn about them. bc smaller user base -> could be nicer exp? and often is.
@caltissue Oh goodness, let's not even get started on Facebook, specially FB groups! I haven't seen such levels of toxicity in my life. I like Mastodon, I am digging this federations thingie :). I'll probably try Diaspora too.

@caltissue Yeah, it is nonprofit user-owned :). I'm not very picky with coffee myself. I usually go for Americano ^^.

@caltissue Hahaha, sometimes the bad taste a bad coffee can leave in your mouth is more effective than all the caffeine in the world ;)
