My PC won't boot today. A red light on the front blinks for a few seconds while the fans spin up, then there's an audible click and it all shuts off. The Asus logo doesn't appear on the monitor like normal.

Last time I unsuccessfully attempted to switch from Mac to literally anything else, I made it one year before my windows machine died and I had to shift to the Mac I got shortly after. Now this time I made it several years, but coincidentally right after I set up a Mac in my workspace for unrelated reasons my PC dies. I'm not happy. mastodon.social/@mcc/110776944

A friend recommended unplugging everything from the wall, turning the power switch off entirely, pressing the power-on button a few times then plugging everything back in and turning it back on. It turned on, which is very good, but slightly scarier than if it were simply broken

@mcc basically what it sounds like they asked you to do is make sure the capacitors were completely drained before rebooting

it does still undeniably feel like a black magic ritual
