casual transphobia; reader prompt
Passing reminder that phrasing like "he or she," as opposed to just using "they," is mildly transphobic. It's a small thing but it still jabs at our ears every time. It's someone taking extra effort to exclude us from something that likely has zero relation to our gender and we take notice.
If it's something you do, you probably don't even realize you're doing it. You may have had it drilled into you by teachers. It likely passes through your lips without a thought and almost certainly without any malice.
It still hurts to hear it, perhaps moreso because we know that you don't even know. Well, those grade school English teachers will never grade you again but the queer people around you are judging your trustworthiness and safety as an ally every time. Who's opinion will you value more going forward?
And what other small but still -phobic or -ist habits still need to be addressed?

Say you're in Rust and you want to stream a wav to disk. By "stream" I mean that you're generating the wav continuously, and you need the final written file to be valid even if the program exits oddly— potentially even if it crashes! This means I need to be able to periodically force the wav writer to seek back to the wav header, write lengths, then seek back to the write point, rather than the interface being "write until you're done, then close, and on close we write a header".
Wacha, Patriarch of Tailoring: The cold of the Venmare region makes clothing for yinglets far less optional than you'd find it elsewhere, so it falls on Wacha and his team of skilled professionals to provide an entire enclave's worth of outfits not just for utility, but for *style* as well.

Here is a post I think is really good about a fan attempt to translate "Baba is You" into Chinese. The results look gorgeous (hanzi are square, and can be written potentially horizontally or vertically, so as a writing system it works BETTER than the Latin alphabet) but because many of the puzzles in Baba is You are literal wordplay hinging on specifics of English grammar it is a VERY hard localization. The post attempts to describe what does and doesn't work.
