you could even just have the system theme provide the default value for the switch

something that seems to be an outstanding problem with webdev that drives me insane is that many websites "detect system-theme" to serve light mode or dark mode, but linux distros don't seem to have a global "light theme" "dark theme" paradigm

if someone knows how to do this in debian cinnamon let me know cause it drives me insane
