@citlali@kitty.town it really is nice and meditative!! i've been doing the same thing, i need to paint mine again after giving them a bit of a break to soak up nail oil. simplynailogical's video about growing long nails/nail care is basically the set of tips i'm following, LOL

i will say also if you don't have any, some liquid latex is amaaazinggg. but i may be biased because i'm bad at actually painting my nails, so it really helps to use it to put up a bit of a barrier

@citlali@kitty.town lol same, they're so easy to do at home now! AND you can use all the little chroming powders n shit. fuck those are so incredibly satisfying to use. if you haven't hit up bornpretty to buy some, 10/10 would recommend it makes you feel like a fuckin WIZARD

unfortunately i got really thin nails so i just can't do them being roughed up to grip for gel :( but i will say china glaze's super adhesion base coat is pretty baller. chipping still happens tho.

@citlali@kitty.town that's valid, i stopped doing my nails with gel because the entire nail worth of nail polish just likes yeeting itself off my fingernail and then it's a bad time LMAO

i would join the dice discourse and showing off but

i actually don't have any physical dice

reasons:

1. i would lose them constantly

2. pretty ones look like they'd be good to lick but i know they're not going to taste good but Wanna Lick

3. my dog also probably thinks 2 is valid and dice look tasty

@citlali@kitty.town nnnNNNOOOOoo

..................okay yeah i've also done the same thing but also like. at least get you some nail oil plx to immediately help your nails a bit

*shoves nail oil pen through the internet at you*

i really like kbeauty lip tints - peripera water lip tint, etude house dear darling water gel tint, etc. - but holy shit, they have a fucking learning curve

i am NOT USED to something SO PIGMENTED but also WITH THE VISCOSITY OF WATER

someday i'll figure out how to apply 'em without one of my fingertips stained red for the rest of the day as well but today is not that day.

@toomuchbread all the best english papers are horrific stretches.

once you get to the stage of "oh my god... you know this actually works", you know... you have made it. you have done an english paper. it is a beautiful, beautiful thing. you're totally on to something here and i believe in you 100%, GO FORTH AND WRITE

source: have english degree, once wrote paper about how world of warcraft was inherently existentialist, got a 98

ever wonder why your train is late in the mornings sometimes? well,

@TheGibson the stupidest most bougie shit i've bought lately in that vein that was still totally worth it:

pillow spray.

just like... stuff you spritz on your bed before you go to sleep. i don't really believe in all the aromatherapy woo-woo, but having a clear scent cue for my brain to go "ah yes, this is the sleepy place" has been great.

also worth considering:
-a nice lumbar support pillow for chairs
-new bedsheets that are jersey knit
-one of those mermaid tail blankets

@TheGibson so in that vein:

-laneige's overnight lip sleeping mask is fucking great and actually sinks in to your lips while you sleep and is phenomenal.

-the elizavecca milky piggy carbonated mask is a nice fun time!

-a bottle of jojoba oil and some empty oil brush pens so you can make your own nail and cuticle oil pens to use. i didn't think it would help me tons until it DID and my hands are so much happier

-The Creme Shop x Sanrio handcreams are at CVS and are pretty darn excellent!

@TheGibson i'm going to guess that being a technomancer you probably already know about spudgers, which i think everyone should have, like, fifty of, because they're just so fucking useful

most of my recent under-50 fuck-everyone-needs-this purchases are skincare related i admit, but honestly, a nice chapstick for overnight, some good handcream and foot cream, and nail oil can be both relatively cheap and really nice little splurges that make you feel better.

while getting jeered at by fatphobic assholes on reddit isn't a great way to start the day, it did at least make me sit down and examine my relationship to checking reddit and decide it was a good time to nuke my browsing history, take it off the shortcuts, and generally make it much harder for myself to get into the rut of gawking at misery and wanting to fight people

...

@eightbitsamurai@elekk.xyz a friend who wants me to come visit them in colorado excitedly told me about "the first rattlesnake of spring" awhile ago

...............i don't think they quite understand how terrifying this is to normal people who are not part-fae ethereal chaos beings like they are.

colorado is a strange place.

also fuck pollen solidarity from the south Oh God The Yellowing Begins

@InspectorCaracal yeah, but i also see how if i listed "she/her I'M CISHET" as my pronouns like, it would end up just doing fuckin nuffin. so i chucked token cishet joke in one spot and listed my pronouns on like... the listy part? and i'm hoping that's an okay compromise but i'm also not sure and now fretting needlessly, which i am also good at :psyduck:

what should i be doing here basically? i'm trying to not step on toes either way, because inviting myself into spaces where i am not invited is boorish, but also pressuring people to out themselves is boorish.

is there a community standard i should be looking to here, or a like commonly done thing practice?

i know i'm probably overthinking this at this point, but overthinking is something i'm quite good at lol

trying to avoid the 💿 🐴, but a question of masto etiquette -

so pronouns listed in profile good, but should i remove mention of being cishet from my profile as well?

i know the idea of listing pronouns is to normalize that/make it easier on trans people, and listing my being cishet may be at cross-purposes with that. but i feel it's also kind of important to note so that i don't come across as like... a bullshit party crasher. i want to make sure i'm properly labelled so people can avoid me.
