@noelle tbh i think the logic check sometimes is "what are my feelings if it's something i'm not a fan of, and of a different group"
like if i was looking at, say, the new awful lone ranger movie, and how tonto is portrayed, would i be content with "a buddy said it's probably fine for depp to just have a bird on his head and talk in stilted english"? or would i go listen to more than just a friend, and listen to the community talking about how it hurts them and has done so historically?
@noelle basically if your evidence is "my jewish friends were fine with it, so, it is fine", it shows you're on the right track - sitting down and listening to the people who are affected. but i would urge you in this case to sit down and listen *more* to the wider jewish community, and to the scholars, rabbis, and rabbinical students talking about how the "greedy money-hungry jew" stereotype is currently hurting them and their communities - and to not just leave it as "my pals said it's ok".
@noelle in double-checking myself, https://jewishstandard.timesofisrael.com/the-money-libel-confronting-a-dangerous-stereotype/ seems to be a somewhat old article (2010, ref. the madoff case) but does interview some scholars on the subject, explain the history, etc. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/made-by-history/wp/2018/08/14/science-fictions-anti-semitism-problem/?utm_term=.f45b7fb5f2dd is an article that is more relevant to sci-fi and more modern/contemporary.
i'm not saying all star trek is cancelled or even all ferengi are now cancelled, but part of truly being a fan of something is understanding to not pass along the shit it stepped in, yknow?
@noelle one can accept that the stereotype exists without agreeing to it - it's a stereotype that has a lot of inertia behind it still, and has been going strong since the middle ages (when money-lending was considered usury, a sin, and thus all of the loans to be had were from the jewish outcasts).
offensive slang like "he jewed me" (meaning "he cheated me out of my money, giving me a bad deal that only financially benefits him") is still unfortunately common, even in the modern day.
@wigglytuffitout one of these two things is immortal and it ain't supernatural
I'm angry too #fibro / #doctor
@maloki i know "i'm sorry" is hollow, but as another spoonie with fibro in here among like fifteen other pieces of shit - solidarity for the absolute fucking maddening frustration of seeing doctor after doctor who just sort of shrugs after making you hurt. :<
i kinda miss pc building
like this will tell you a lot about my family lmao, but helping my dad do pc building shit was a lot of good childhood bonding memories
(less building up from scratch, more for upgrading this bit or that bit over time or mushing things around to make remnant frankenmachines, but still)
....however i now use laptops thanks to disability and there is No Way i am building a Fucking Laptop
pc building, unhealthy
@dysphoricunicorn in a pinch, la croix will do as well
but ONLY if you then include an avocado toast heat sink
pc building, unhealthy
@dysphoricunicorn for the true optimal performance, make sure your pc is cooled with evian, fiji, or - for exceptional performance - perrier
anyway my whining aside y'all wanna see my new buddy
tw for a gnarly looking bruise which is the result of the trigger point injection into my pec minor that i got friday
not pictured: the pretty big goose egg underneath my skin accompanying it (also no eye contact and no titty so y'all can be prepared, i didn't have to pull my shirt down that much)
i've not had this with a trigger point injection before and i've about made up my mind to call the office tomorrow
H U R T S .
@monorail OH they have some free tickets if you go in the news for the drinks that increase certain secondary ability chance! i think main power up is one so far
at least you can grind for chunks using those?
"but all the privates are covered! it's not nsfw!" is as hollow as a foot fetishist saying "how dare you, it's not a creep shot, i was just taking a picture of her shoes, not her underwear!"
and honestly, when it comes to fat women, this train always seems to come to end at one station - "but you should be flattered! isn't it nice that SOMEbody is finding you sexy? i mean, you can't be choosy... you're fat, after all...."
it's the same ol' shit, no matter how many uwu rainbows it is rolled in
honestly i would be happy if people just met me halfway and tagged their obvious fetish art as nsfw.
you have an inflation/feeder/fat kink. great. please do me the courtesy of saying "yes i want to be part of that" or "no i don't want to be part of that"
seeing it untagged does not mean i get basic respect of consent, i get roped into the kink regardless of my feelings and comfort.
at that point your kink isn't fatness, it's making people into unwilling participants to view your kink
