Contrary, pol

@HerraBRE eh, i was going for "this person is putting forth these ideas and could benefit or take heed from a 'check yourself before you wreck yourself' as part of the discourse on mastodon", because i have this weird naiive idea about how sometimes people can actually change their course when told "that ain't it, chief".

if you don't want people to respond to your posts - i would suggest perhaps at least limiting to local timeline only, if not followers-only.

ok my dog is yelling at me to go to bed

GOODNIGHT FEDIVERSE

@InspectorCaracal a troll that wants ramen..................................... which is legitimate i suppose

i'm guessing that mars is rising in the fifth house or whatever and also my subconscious wants ramen and frilly clothes, personally

dream interpreters, what's my dream from last night mean: i dreamed i was with family and we were visiting tokyo and my dad wanted to eat at the one (1) singular cracker barrel in all of japan so we had to go 3 hours out of the way and miss my one goal for the trip, the plus-sized lolita fashion store

...

note: i did promptly get up groggily to jokingly demand my dad that If We Go To Tokyo There Will Be Absolutely No Cracker Barrel

Cowboy selfie, eye contact

@melt@mastodon.social i'm not sure that's what people typically mean when they say "cowboy mustache", but it does suit you, so it all works out

anyway i gotta go write an apology letter to all members of outkast for summing up so many objections i have to people on mastodon with the chorus to roses

Contrary, pol

@HerraBRE and honestly, dismissing people saying "eat the rich" as "not enlightened" is real easy when you're in a position where your daily life is not threatened by the rich deciding profits are more important than you being able to live.

for more information on THAT, this type 2 diabetic cordially invites you to look up the cost of insulin in the united states, over time, and the profit margin on it.

so, in conclusion.

🎵 i know you like to think your shit don't stink... 🎵

Contrary, pol

@HerraBRE that sort of enlightenment ain't revolutionary. it's the same old-same old of Dude Tells You Silly Minorities What To Think Because He Alone Has The Clearly Superior Brain.

that schtick got old about... ohhh... *checks watch* i'm gonna say, generously, 20,000 BCE? sounds like a good estimate.

for more information, please see this video. youtube.com/watch?v=gWju37TZfo declaring yourself as Mighty Fine 'cos you're enlightened is only gonna get you somewhere half the time...

Contrary, pol

@HerraBRE making broad declarations that Oppressed People Don't Understand Their Circumstances And Only I, On My Mountain Of Privilege, Can Truly Understand What They Should Feel Because I Am So Enlightened is not, in short, good praxis.

if you're against these systems, you have to understand and sympathize with people being mad at them. NOT dismiss them as 'the unenlightened' while snobbily tossing your nose in the air.

Contrary, pol

@HerraBRE and honestly, if you're willing to call yourself a male feminist and also spout this NOT ALL MEN crap - that conveniently gives you an excuse to never look at yourself as an individual perpetuating these systems, which come from no person whatsoever but are the Real Problem Not People Totes Trust Me I'm Enlightened - i think we all know what your feminism is gonna eventually end up being.

Contrary, pol

@HerraBRE it is, essentially, "if you point out your oppressor, you are not Enlightened (tm) and not worthy of my time! you should work at being more Enlightened (tm) like me! the systems that harm you are totally unconnected to the people in those systems, building those systems, so don't be mad at the people harming you! it's, like, the system, brah. the person who punched you? they were just, like, innocent. totes innocent my dude."

Contrary, pol

@HerraBRE if you are Enlightened, it means you never have to question yourself. here, you've set yourself up perfectly to ignore how you contribute to, maintain, and promote those harmful systems. "ah, well, they just happen, and people who benefit are totally innocent you see..." not only ignores the reality of how those systems happen, but dismisses the genuine anger, hurt, and harm being done to minorities by those systems.

Contrary, pol

@HerraBRE if you aren't going to give a damn for people unless they are "enlightened" just like you, AND a crucial step to your enlightenment is coming from a place of privilege - so you are insulated from such sources of anger - siddhartha you ain't, my dude.

saying "well it's the systems, some benefit, some don't" ignores how those systems came to be.

honestly, it reeks of a get-out-of-jail-free-card for examining one's own behavior.

Contrary, pol

@HerraBRE if you truly want people to break free, to have true equality and freedom, it means understanding that there are systems grinding them under the heel, and it means understanding they're going to be frustrated at the culprits wearing the boots.

wearing the boots includes not only active participation, but passive participation... like mocking minorities for being unenlightened when they express anger and frustration at the people hurting them.

Contrary, pol

@HerraBRE so yes, people have a right to get angry at the people who are keeping in place those systems that oppress them.

even - and perhaps especially - when people who benefit from those systems, like, let's say, a man who is also a feminist, claim their enlightenment above the repressed masses around them, despite being part of the group the system is benefitting. especially when this hypothetical male feminist then mocks frustration and anger of the oppressed.

Contrary, pol

@HerraBRE you know this has been sticking in my mind like a fishbone in my craw for a bit.

i think where you're going wrong - ironically right after claiming enlightenment -is the idea that people on top of these systems "accidentally".

these systems did not just emerge, fully-formed, as minerva from the forehead of zeus. they are not natural processes, no matter how many lobsters jordan peterson cites.

these are systems *set in place* by *people* and *kept in place* by *people*.

also i need to run the last instance before stormblood in ffxiv but

1. Fear.

2. keep misreading it as "gimlet dark" and trying to figure out what that would even be. sub in chambourd for part of the gin and blackberry puree for some of the lime? vodka gimlet with blavod black vodka?? THE WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW

@beebs @ShawnEric@rightmastodon.com ah yes, the freeziest peaches of all: Only The People I Like Get To Say Things That Do Not Challenge Me Whatsoever. only the most padded and soft walled midden heap for the most delicate of turboweenies to pretend that is the entire wide world.

i think the internet needs to collectively develop a cocktail recipe, heavy on the liquor (and frozen peaches, ofc) to be the official response to this kind of nonsense. peach daiquiri, extra rum, maybe?
