@InspectorCaracal it's also odd to laud a heroine as "look how brave she is, being the first woman detective in the pinkertons!!" and then... not do anything much in the way of letting her show that?... like all action against her is horrifying misogyny to everyone which i'm sure was also an obstacle, but as a writer i'm just like "dang y'all this is a huge pile of missed opportunities, let your heroine encounter some obstacles and vault over them, that's your premise right???"

but it does sort of create this weird dynamic where the only racist/sexist characters are shown to be really over the top villains, and there's not really any examples of... everyday shit. it comes across a little too "well you see, we can all be assured of our own moral goodness because we're not out there pouring acid on black men so we can't be at all racist uwu", which is... annoyingly watered down gruel for the audience as far as morality goes.

i can let a lot of the other historical inaccuracies slide because i sympathize with not wanting to constantly emulate the sexism and racism of the immediate US civil war (even if i feel a little like it's robbing the heroes of being heroic if like... you're saying your heroes are heroic for standing against it, but ....eeeeeveryone else is kinda doing the same damn thing and it's not a problem? like have them actually stand apart)

but the historical inaccuracy that got my goat? nearly every character treating heroin in 1867 as this thing which is definitely bad and is known to be bad and it's so tragic that it's still legal when it came up during the course of an investigation

i feel ancient now because someone on a discord server asked if anyone could answer questions about life in 1992 (specifically, how you got new music to listen to) and i was the one that knew

genuinely windows is the best option for the things i am using this for (i want a laptop to play games with my friends on, and so help me god, i do not have the patience to fight with W.I.N.E. in hand to hand combat constantly), i just want to head off any fossbro whining at the pass since a lot of them like feeling smug far more than they do helping anyone or anything in this world

and just in case there's about to be a rush of MNEH MNEH THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD RUN LINUX INSTEAD OF ICKY WINDOWS:

1. if i wasn't too fucking disabled to be constantly running that level of tech support for myself, i'd be out working as a tech support person instead of being disabled, you absolute numpty

2. when i googled the problem the answer for unix was 15 steps more complicated and involved multiple iterations of command line prompts.

the new external keyboard does work a lot better when i don't forget to somehow disable the old internal keyboard it is resting on LOL

i swear though that there used to be a setting for this. like just. "hey laptop, when i have an external device delivering keyboard/mouse input, please turn off your internal ones." i swear this used to be just like a toggle. but now i have to trick windows into obeying me lol. is this just a fever dream of common sense on my part? who knows

seriously i love my dog and i love that she likes to sit next to me in my recliner as i do things on my laptop

but i am also absolutely sure that a substantial amount of dog hair has wormed its way into my laptop's chiclet keyboard.

the keys are also rather high up, but not a pain to press down, so that's fine

it's a bit on stilts so you can admire the rainbow backlight, but since you can remove the caps on this and put them back on properly (instead of the laptop's chiclet keyboard which is 'haha good luck dumbass'), i'm hoping that maybe my precious beautiful wonderful dog's CONSTANT CREATION OF SO MUCH SHED FUR will not worm its way into this keyboard so much
