@kara@witchcraft.cafe this is a somewhat sappy suggestion, but if you live anywhere near where there are any of those 'pan for gemstones' tourist attractions... a gemstone you find yourself, set in conventional metal, would be one way to not only make a wedding ring, but a lovely memory as well! and then you get the kismet of "let's see what luck brings us" to get some of the decisions made for you LOL.

@kara@witchcraft.cafe it's a different sort of chic bordering on hipster, but i've seen some really lovely wedding rings made from iron meteorites (either in whole or part), and ones that also incorporate bands of wood. people also do some really pretty wood in resin bands, which is more forest hipster than geeky, but perhaps worth considering - etsy.com/listing/594264232/jun

@meatmage it's also ignoring the true rightful owner of purple:

the artist formerly known as Prince.

so therefore if anyone gives anyone flak about 'we owned the color purple first', tell them solemnly that the community officially leased it from Prince and therefore has a genuine and valid claim

i mean i have no idea about her content or what she even does, but my inner decora fangirl has to give jojo siwa some respect

that jacket where it looks like she's just sort of rolled on the prize counter at chuck-e-cheese's.

i fucking love it.

Misogyny in music perception

@slightlyflightyone@vulpine.club ok yes, that's perfect. more of that.

and more uh... i don't fucking know, what do teen girls like these days? jojo siwa? i only know the name because apparently giant fuckoff bows are controversial and some schools ban them now and that means i narrow my eyes and resolve in my little heart of hearts to wear bigger and bigger bows as to be an inspiration to all

Misogyny in music perception

@slightlyflightyone@vulpine.club i agree with the sentiment but given that twilight is a regrettable pile of normalization of abusive relationships with a weird half twist of racism up in there, may i suggest another series

we need more uhhhhh

@slightlyflightyone@vulpine.club oh yes.

there are few things pop culture hates more than something teenage girls like.

Pain med question

@Doggo ah that's understandable! yeah due to the legality maze over here in the states, i can only get CBD oil that has absolutely no THC content so it doesn't get you high at all, and thankfully that hasn't interacted with my own head meds so far. or, i mean, it could be, but i'm already on opioids so LMAO...

but yeah there's a lot of good cream options out there to try! there are even rx creams with anti-inflammatories in them you can ask your doc about.

Pain med question

@Doggo (tho i can still recommend the Two Old Goats cream. it doesn't do the icy-hot minty cream thing, it's just a bunch of herbal whatever and birch bark extract. when dealing with my fibro and whatever it's been the one Holy Shit This Does Something cream for me. after wikipedia delving i think this may be due to the birch bark, since it's sort of like willow bark in that you find an asprin precursor in there, but anyway, it's a nice cream LOL)

Pain med question

@Doggo be careful with heating packs tho. heat's good for getting muscles to relax, but it actually causes increased blood flow so if you try to treat inflammation with heat, you're going to hardcore fuck yourself over, since all that increased bloodflow will bring more inflammation to come get trapped basically.

i'd suggest maybe some different topical creams but ones with menthol in them or similar might hardcore set off sensory issues tbh

Pain med question

@Doggo i use these really lovely reusable coldpacks called Chattanooga ColPacs - they have some like chemical mush gel in them and are sturdily built. get one, toss on wherever, 20 minutes on 20 off (DON'T BE LIKE MY DUMBASS AND GIVE URSELF A CHILBLAIN BC COLD FEEL GOOD LOL), pop back in the freezer, repeat. you can make a nice cover for them sewing up a towel or putting them in a pillowcase too (makes it less harsh on your skin by far).

Pain med question

@Doggo they do make CBD oil in gelcaps tho! which although i've tricked myself into tolerating the oil is a big relief. the ones i get also aren't incredibly fuckoff huge in size, which is nice. procana is the brand i rely on, they're expensive but i'm sure you could find similar over on your side of the pond (bc i'm guessing you're over in the uk). if cold water is the problem and not just, like, cold, i can also give some good recs there too! >

Pain med question

@Doggo oh man, i know EDS might make it a pile of fuck. i don't have it myself but i've heard some friends talk about their struggles, and apparently there are some over the counter pain meds that just Don't Do Any Shit At All because of EDS fuckery interfering. on the plus side tho it's a clear and obvious diagnosis to hit any doctor in the head with if they get stroppy about you taking pain meds. i wish i could remember details there but my head's full of mucus lol

Pain med question

@Doggo also HOLY SHIT I AM SO SORRY FOR ALL OF THIS SPAM UPON YOUR INNOCENT PERSON, but as someone who has chronic pain and is disabled for it, i figure i might hopefully know some tips and tricks. worst case scenario this is shit you already know in which case i apologise, and please have these capybaras as just restitution for talking your ear off

Pain med question

@Doggo or you could even look to non-medicine at all. does ice help? or heat? can you see if immediately icing down [wherever body part] after [activity] helps you avoid future pain? can you get in with a doctor to say "hey, my ___ hurts whenever i do ____, is this something physical therapy would help with?" would trigger point massage help, or doing exercises on your own help? ( askdoctorjo.com is fucking phenomenal for such shit.) >

Pain med question

@Doggo and depending on the type of pain, i'd encourage you to look at shit that's maybe alternative treatments. for example, if it's largely muscle soreness after physical exertion, have you tried any topical creams or sprays? (i really like Two Old Goats cream here, it works really well in a lotion roller.) or would you be down for trying a supplement like CBD oil that can help knock down that long-term diffuse pain? etc. etc.

Pain med question

@Doggo for example, if you're taking a regular-ass anti-inflammatory, often if you take it before you get to the painmaking thing, you can end up ahead of the game significantly. the best example of this i can think of is my orthodontist saying to just go ahead and take some advil *before* an appointment to get braces adjusted. that way there's already the "shh, shh. calm down." when your body goes "AAAAAAAA SOMEONE'S TRYIN TO MOVE OUR TEETH". >

Pain med question

@Doggo sometimes it's good to take pain medicine BEFORE you get hurting more severely. this seems counter-intuitive but if you're really worried about opioid addiction, this is actually how to prevent it - get ahead of the pain and stay there. that way there's no cycle of "overwhelming pain and then massive relief" for your brain to want to find again and again.

to a lesser extent this goes for over the counter pain meds as well >

Pain med question

@Doggo i think it depends on the type of painkillers to be honest

if you're talking over the counter advil or what have you - life's too short fam, pop that shit for like a 2 outta 10.

if you're talking about heavy duty rx-only opioids or some shit - i'd save that for "i'm having trouble functioning or focusing because of my pain and it's negatively affecting my daily life".
