@DragonNamedRedd@snouts.online it's def worth bringing up because since hormone balance is so individual, if you're taking medication that affects them in some way, well... a lot of it is "we know broadly how this works for everyone, but let us know if this fits right". at some point it's the medicine equivalent of buying clothing off the rack, since we can't do individually tailored (yet), so there's no shame in going "i really feel like a size 8 is too big, let's try a size 6 in these jeans".

@DragonNamedRedd@snouts.online it might not be a bad idea to go have them draw some bloodwork and see if any hormones are clearly outta whack. and i don't mean it's just sex hormones like estrogen/testosterone they need to look at (idk that much of your personal business), honestly - things like cortisol can also affect sex drive immensely (though mostly you'll find people discussing the opposite problem of hormones out of whack causing low sex drive).

@DragonNamedRedd@snouts.online as a rando scrolling past on the fediverse... if you think that it's significantly impacting your life for the negative, it might be a good time to talk to your doc about it. especially if you're on any medication that's hormonal or affecting hormones, tbh. hormones are hella useful, but they're also by definition big fucking guns, *and* everyone's hormonal balance is individually different, with everyone responding to hormones in a very individual manner to boot.
ok now i'm just knee-deep in my own bullshit because GOD the build-up in When I Still Needed You is SO. FUCKING. GOOD.
i'm gonna be obnoxious and go ahead and pop it in a tag. if you are looking for some new #music to listen to, give this a whirl. yes it starts slow, yes it is worth it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oC_cKVDM_zY
Afro Celt Sound System is very marmite-level music, you're either going to fucking love it or fucking hate it, but i'm gonna argue you might like it a whole lot more than you'd think
(then the male vocalist comes in and then the choir, so i guess that male vocalist - who is a regular part of the band - i have decided probably sounds the most like botw link in fine singing form is... ...idk, link's singing in gaelic somewhere in the distance. no idea what the choir is and where they fit in that's where this all falls apart a bit
it's fine, it's still a real fucking good "music to imagine a video to and thus flesh out your story idea" song)
anyway this was all kicked off by random shuffle bringing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqfbAWqbX0I up - which is a much more like... placid, chill song, kinda sad with a kernel of hope in the middle, since it's a "life is tough but i'm going to make it through this" tune
and realizing Ah Shit, There's The Voice Of That Minor Character I Just Drew
i mean look down at her, and then listen to the female vocalist, and tell me it don't fit but perfect
(but it's not my fav song from that album) (THIS is my fav song from that album)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5drqKNVukY
(if "dance music bagpipes" doesn't terrify you, you'll probably like it too) (if you hear the concept and go HMMM, GO ON... A REEL BUT IN THE CLUB, YOU SAY... you'll probably love it)
y'know i just realized in trying to introduce Afro Celt Sound System to a fediverse of furries, i coulda just linked their song Big Cat and been done https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl-l03pzFVA
@InspectorCaracal his albums range in this like... slide from "closer to traditional flamenco guitar" to "we're pretty far away from it now into new age", but Gravity is i think kinda the defining album
also well worth watching videos of him performing this shit live so you can go HOW DOES ONE MAN'S FINGERS EVEN DO THAT
@InspectorCaracal it's... anatomic i think where they bring in a guest artist, Jesse Cook, who i also really really like
but it was NOT a crossover i was expecting because Jesse Cook plays flamenco guitar and has branched out further into like. "world music" based on that guitar. i was all PARDON? WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN TECHNOLAND WITH THE AFROCELTS?? but it's some genuinely nice songs.
to give an idea of how it blindsided me, THIS is what i consider best of Jesse Cook https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3iTfEF52kw
@InspectorCaracal as far as instrumentals go, i feel like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ud-pq5LPlyw might be your groove
i admit i'm a couple of albums behind because the band has been sort of. wibbly? like i think there's been high turnover so to speak, i'm here going "wait a gol dang minute y'all told me that album was gonna be the last what's this song i don't know"
@InspectorCaracal honestly same hat
i have to be in the mood for When You're Falling, it's def they were trying to go for "let's attempt to get something on the charts"
i really really like the vocal groove they got for Seed
Nevermore is a bit cheesy duet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qfElBWYlu4 but like, it's good cheese. this is cheese that is prime for powering writing your fantasy novel yknow? it is That Groove
@InspectorCaracal the same singer pops up often throughout their albums, he's part of the standard band iirc, singing mostly in gaelic but occasionally english
singing in languages i can understand is the definite minority of vocal tracks LMAO, most of the vocals are in various celtic and african languages
they get more vocal-ish as they go on in the discography if that makes sense? so you might be a fan of earlier stuff moreso
@InspectorCaracal then honestly you'll probably like the rest of it much better, that's just the like... entry level hook to get normies interested HA
try https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dmh1cZQuXk on for size. that song isn't built around a guest artist singer, but instead by a regular band member on vocals. they're honestly majority non-vocal tracks
Persistence of Memory is a lot more chill and slow but i think is also lovely
Seed and Anatomic are tied in my second-place for best ACSS album slot
if you want to like... start with just one of their greatest songs, and are ok with it being a slow burn at first
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oC_cKVDM_zY
iirc this was featured on the soundtrack to Hotel Rwanda
some of their songs you can tell teeter more towards the african or more towards the celtic, the above teeters more towards african (and rightly so)
@InspectorCaracal nicely timed, right as i hit 'toot' on the post giving my recs B)
to me vol. 3 further in time is like... the quintessential acss
this is about as pop as they get, so it's a good introduction so to speak. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNI2Tb24ofI if you like what you hear, the whole album's fantastic
