a wigglytuff continues to observe the meta in the distance

so, ironically, these declarations that it cannot become twitter culture - have been the ultimate expression of twitter culture.

a PoC tries to defend themselves from an attack, and warn others.

a white person gets very upset about this.

the PoC's actions are made into the worst most toxic thing and no attention is paid to the actual harm being done.

i mean, this is first chapter of The Jeffree Star Playbook For Influencers, lol

an admin who is constantly focusing on the feelings of white people above the safety of PoC - their own feelings included emphatically here - while not wanting to take much responsibility for doing so is going to be... really tiring for PoC to co-admin with.

it's not about the twitter cancel culture - it's about the racism. especially as it comes out said user had been more and more off the rails with no admin action.

i mean there's only so many times one can say "i fucked up, BUT..." before it begins to ring hollow, by virtue of trying to be an immediate justification.

the enormous void still remains there that it wasn't the screenshot dunk one side desperately wants it to be. it was a timely warning, and quite frankly, i don't think anything less than a screenshot would have been acceptable evidence 'cos it was just that fuckin strange.

i commend the new mods and wish them the best of luck on witches.lives but i also fully expect that within 3 months or so they will get burned out, given that there's still steadfast resistance to admit that it was not "screenshot dunking" but instead "warning of obvious extreme racism" and constant redirection into "but I'M the REAL victim here actually".

@cryptovexillologist honestly it's a bunch of really interesting history that should be studied and discussed far more than it actually is

and people who are far more intelligent than me can probably make many good comments on this, but i'm afraid i've just gotten distracted now remembering how much i love green fluff and its semi-annual appearance at the end of the thanksgiving/etc. family potluck buffet line

@DragonNamedRedd@snouts.online don't worry, that's just one block over to the northwest if you cut through that alley

(i just don't have any jojos in my gif folder)

i'm going to still eat the dubious salads though, not even going to lie

also the casseroles.

pass the impossible upside-down cheeseburger pie and the broccoli salad and the green fluff for dessert.

i'm just saying, i don't think we of the wonder bread whiteness need to blame anyone else for all of this nonsense

even

...even if it's delicious

@DragonNamedRedd@snouts.online it's ok, they're obviously late for pokemon school and need a quick on the go breakfast as the intro music plays

i must say there's one thing i disagree with some of the fediverse on: white culture exists

because for the love of god, nobody else needs to be blamed for gender reveal parties (for the puppy you're adopting), cargo shorts, made in china novelty dreamcatchers with confederate flags in the middle, and "salads" that consist of unrelated foods stuck together with mayonnaise.

i'm specifically having a looksee at these, because the more molded/contoured would be perhaps a little bit nicer to hold

since basically what i want is 'ok pro controller but just completely obliterate the middle so i can stretch'

on that note, people who also have a ,

are all third-party joycons garbage and failure and disappointment, or are some of them worth a go?

so after the eevee joycon has been a problem child with its joystick replaced TWICE, now

now...

the pikachu joycon has decided the R button is fake news.

i'm glad i went ahead and got a pro controller but for fuck's sake. at least it's all still under warranty but immediately after surgery is not a good time for this to happen dangnabbit. time to budget another set of joycons

food, give me advice

@em currant cobbler probably isn't terribly traditional, but honestly there are few fruits that would go badly in a cobbler - allrecipes.com/recipe/88354/ea

@Sapphicgiraffic@snouts.online i feel like this is begging for a Skater Boi parody but i am not clever enough to make it

Request For Services (PAID)

You read it right, I'm gonna pay someone to help me out here.
I just checked in with my co-mod, and we need a consultant!
We're both queer, neurodivergent, and politically radical. So we have a lot of bases covered. But we're both white as rice on paper. And if we're gonna make an actually good instance, a healthy community, we need these experiences now, before we crystallize our CoC, before we get any more users, before any friction happens. I'm not gonna make the mistakes I see my fellow admins making.
So, if you are Black, PoC, especially a woman of color, and you have some knowledge (official or not idc) of social organizing and/or admining instances, I want to consult you, and then reimburse you.
Please signal boost, and anyone qualified is welcome in my DMs.

@Bottledjimmy pardon? you might have to run that one by me again with a bit more linkage, the coffee is taking awhile to sink into my brain this morning lmao

i guess to sum up why i miss hamfests quickly is to say "hamfests are why, somewhere above my head in the attic, there is a pile of about 8-15 commodore 64s, none of which work, but that my sister got out of curiosity with the plan to see if she could work out how to get one working franken-commodore out of the whole deal, because it was like 15 dollars for the lot"

i feel like this is something that holds immense appeal to a large part of the fediverse

@doctorsidrat@fandom.ink they're sort of like conventions, i think some have talks and so on (or these days it's a focal point of where they're doing the official licensing tests), but mostly it's an excuse for a really big swap meet and that is what's really fun

it's a really good hobby still, i think they semi-recently relaxed the morse code requirements on the lowest level license too!

like imagine a big communal garage sale where the parking lot was half "for 20 bucks more, you get a spot here and you can open up the back of your car and sell old tech bits", in an environment where everybody knows at least a baseline about that technology so you can get in to the real interesting shit

plus usually a section for indoor vendors who actually set up proper booths and such

a LOT of old computery doodads swapped and bartered and sold all around

i'm the black sheep of my family in that i am the only one without a ham radio license (A TERRIBLE MARK OF GREAT SHAME, AS I AM SURE YOU'D AGREE). my mom and dad still have some old printed postcards with their handles on them that they'd send to people around the world after chatting, their car license plates for a long time were their ham numbers, etc.

but mostly

hamfests were such great general tech swapmeets
