[looking at my "future computer upgrade ideas" document and scratching my chin thoughtfully] it'd be really funny if i went back to macOS in the next year or whatever

no matter what, i am—perhaps controversially—not really interested in getting another mATX desktop. i was not as interested in upgrades as i thought i'd be. sincerely, i'm glad i built one! it gave me a hands-on experience with hardware that i genuinely wanted, and more insight on how computer hardware works

buuuuut. i am just not enough of a capital-g Modern Gamer lol. i'm way more interested in emulation and i *absolutely* don't need windows for that.

in the future i could see myself running a mac mini+thinkpad w/ linux, or an emulation-friendly mini PC+macbook. much to think about.

@platinumtulip that's at least a fairly easy need to cater to, all that needs consideration is the CPU's single-core performance. no need to fret about what graphics card is in it.

i find there's somewhat less emulation community around the mac though; i had OpenEmu working well enough for the common stuff on my 2013 MacPro but there were some things it didn't support that I wish it did. (such as: my gamepad)

@wildweasel hmm yeah, that's a good point. i used OpenEmu back when i had a 2013 MacBook pro as my only computer and enjoyed it, but i also remember running into limitations with the systems it supported at the time

@platinumtulip @wildweasel iirc OpenEmu supports a bunch of things now but I also haven’t used it in A While

@eramdam @platinumtulip @wildweasel Openemu’s development has really slowed down unfortunately. I’ve seen a couple signs of live but not sure what’s going to happen with it
