another discussion begins in regards to "if you beat the game by cheating, you didn't beat the game." i enter the discussion by saying there's plenty of ways to engage with a game and a lot of the people who do that probably don't want to talk because they feel their POV is not valid.

someone else comes in; admits they only finished Fire Emblem in Casual mode. they then get talked down to, and told that they "didn't really play Fire Emblem."

... why does being vindicated have to feel so bad?

anybody can engage with a game in whatever levels and angles they want. there is no wrong way. if you do this, i consider you just as valid.

i will continue to champion these ideals. ... from a comfortable distance away.

almost feeling like i ought to leave the place where that happened, anyway, because while it's not as elitist as some of the fighting and shmup circles i keep getting glimpses of, it recently feels like i am just not getting anything of value from it, as the most active people in there are the ones whose attitudes just do not mesh well with mine.

and, yeah, i tend to not want to talk because things like the above have happened to me, too.

@wildweasel i feel like the only wrong way to engage with a game is to not really engage with it at all and get nothing out of the experience

i know people who get uncomfortable with the fact that i often like to break games before i complete my first playthrough

if they did not want me to break it then why did they put in so many invisible walls with holes in them for me to find??

getting *way* out of bounds in Horizon Zero Dawn and discovering that the map is like double the size of the official play area is one of my favorite memories from playing it
