@Terxbor My admiration for the game has faded over time, but as with most games it's fun in bursts. If only I stopped when those bursts stop. Oh well.
It's held up amazingly well (to me, and seemingly everyone) despite being obnoxiously unavoidable for years.

Part of it is definitely the mods in the Java version. But that doesn't explain the popularity of all the other releases. It's probably just how conceptually easy it is to make stuff.

It seems going by genre is mostly pointless as most people's music tastes aren't cleanly divided. That said, I like some Italo Disco, New Wave, some pop (most of my music is from the 80's for some reason), most of the rock I like is apparently alternative (pretty much the entirety of the GenX station from saints row 2). Last year I found out I liked some metal (80's again, I'm predictable :P) and well, my tastes are expanding ever since.

It's certainly had the time to filter out the poor stuff. Still seems like a lot of nice things have been largely forgotten.
Recent music isn't all bad, but I can't say I enjoy listening to radio much. Most recent radio song I come back to every now and then is Mando Diao - Dance With Somebody but otherwise I like Tame Impala for example (as in, I have three albums).

Well, firstly, in general I like rock and metal. (Unfortunately, both of the local rock radio stations are Alternative, and play as much Alt pop as rock now.) I like less-repetitive techno as well, and still somehow love Daft Punk.
Chiptunes are also good. Some pop... But it's hard to find the good stuff with radio playing so much crap.
Mostly don't like rap, but I love Macklemore.
I really love comedy music. Especially Allan Sherman, Tom Lehrer, and Weird Al Yankovic.
