I used to have a friend of sorts (keywords: used to) that obsessed over doing this, particularly toward things that were popular in any way

non-niche music, movies, popular anime, popular books, etc. it was kinda maddening because he just would not stop - and had a habit of jumping into otherwise pleasant conversations about said things solely to crap on them

it was... ugh. 😬
