the best food related purchase I've ever made was a sous vide circulator back in 2017 on a cyber monday sale
makes meat prep infinitely easier compared to other methods, with predictable high quality results every damn time
i could never, ever go back
(came to mind since I just tossed some cheap pork chops into the water for dinner)

@Chel Definitely something I'd like to lay my paws on when I've got kitchen space once more. ^_^ I'd enjoy the experimental side, I think, seeing how different meats and fish turn out at various temperatures and durations.
I wonder how really good Iberico pork would turn out.. =:9 I've ordered that a few times from the delivery service I use, and it's gorgeous stuff - like the usual kind, just /moreso/.

@porsupah it's pretty useful from a space perspective - just need a plastic tub for the water, and a decent skillet for finishing the meat off with a sear
my current apartment has a really small kitchen, so its been really useful from that perspective
I've actually been meaning to give iberico pork a try! Scarly and I are heavily budgeting our groceries this year though, in preparation for moving in early 2020, so it might have to wait a few moments, though ;_;

@porsupah that... sounds like the kitchen of my dreams
good kitchens are honestly exciting to an utterly absurd degree, and I legit fantasize about being able to someday have a fully customized one
and yeah, cooking is a complete delight and joy, to say the absolute least - especially when you've got some folks to cook for :3
and yep - P-town it is! we already go down quite a few times a year, so it'll be a money savings in that regard to simply live there x)

@Chel All the moreso given I /love/ cooking, and was lucky enough a few years ago to be renting a place with a beautifully laid out kitchen - enough space for five chopping boards and still have a few feet of countertop spare. ^_^
Ahh, that's it! I recall you mentioning P-town. ^_^ Only visited there once, quite briefly - I was living in Medford, in the south. (Not somewhere to seek out, though Ashland and Jacksonville are nice, if perhaps a bit twee)
