I wish I had a couple Chel clones to live with, so that we could distribute the burden of spoon consuming activities and be collectively better off as a result. Not to mention added benefits, such as cooking together, having more players for Mario Kart/etc, being able to make ou— I mean, being able to watch cute cat videos together, and probably drive Scarily absolutely up a wall with our collective antics

@Scarly if you mean you’re not sure this is a good idea, well, I mean, of course it is

@Chel
@scarly
What would your clones think about not having access to the same electronics at the same time?

The same bed?

Having to ration food because the available quantity of food hasn't increased in proportion with the number of bodies?

Wanting to watch different shows that air at the same time?

Need to use the washroom at the same time?

Actually, each additional clone greatly increases pipeline pressure for washroom access. You may reach a critical mass where the washroom is never open.

@decis @Scarly okay, let's unpack this all bit by bit... :blobthinking:

so, there are two PCs in this apartment, two admittedly oldish netbooks, an old android tablet, a couple old phones, a television, and more consoles than I'd like to admit

Scarly works day shift mon-fri, so most of the time during the week both PCs would be open, in addition to the other items. if we assume three clones for a total of four Chels, we'd be able to guarantee that each had access to a computer of some sort

@decis @Scarly basically we'd need to trade off between good PCs and not great PCs, which would probably be fine since I don't often do anything that requires tremendous computing power, apart from some games which we'd just have to take turns on (and which we would have two capable PCs for)

so I think that'd be fine

food rationing might be a blessing in disguise by forcing the Chel collective to maintain a stricter diet and making eating out less practical, with some potential health benefits

@decis @Scarly a lot of the things that I cook tend to be things that are easy to do in bulk, and that are easy to scale, so home cooking wouldn't be too big of an issue - we'd just have to spend more time at Costco, more or less.

different shows and movies shouldn't be too difficult, since I presume the clones would have similar taste... and there are so many screens and cheap headphones available, that we could do our own thing in that regard.

washroom would be dicey, though - that would be

@decis @Scarly the most difficult thing. we'd have to get used to occasionally making mad dashes through the apartment building to the restroom in the lobby. I think there's a second restroom that is available for all residents as well, though I'm not sure.

it would be difficult, uncomfortable at times, but probably workable with a bit of strategy and planning :blobhyperthink:

bed would be a little tricky, admittedly. we'd have to trade off on it, the couch, and an air mattress or something

@decis @Scarly at least until a second, matching mattress could be purchased and set alongside the existing one, creating a m-m-m-mega bed

I'M UP TO THE CHALLENGE, I GOT IT ALL FIGURED OUT

@Chel @decis ok, that's so scary i can't even

I AM VETOING THIS IDEA

@behold3r @Chel @decis my dear, they are yours, i'll even help you feed and water them

@Chel
@scarly
It's true that a lot of fun can be had with old computers and netbooks. And I suppose shows modern folks watch don't "air" at the same time per se.

Mom buys a week's worth of Chinese takeout at a time, allowing her to eat at very low cost. Costco and cooking may be likewise low cost, with the added benefit of that much bulk stuff actually getting used...

@decis @Scarly the takeout idea sounds particularly effective and delicious :blobmelt:

@Chel
@scarly
We might have right it was delicious before being on that regime for about 8 years. There's not very many items that keep well with refrigeration, and the total number of items on the menu among the qualifying would constrain options to a set of repeating patterns that would get old after a while.

@decis @Scarly that... that is actually an incredibly good point, and something that I hadn't considered :blobsleepless:

I guess... fried rice is still really good after being in the fridge? 😅

@Chel @scarly
M-M-M-MEGABED may be constrained by the size of the room. I don't think there'd be enough space anywhere in our apartment to fit 2 queen size beds side by side.

As for washroom access... You have washrooms in the lobby? TWO of them? :blobpanic: And they're indoors? Such extravagance! Such luxury! Such beauty!

@decis @Chel it's so luxurious, we can only afford to live in a shoe box here

@decis @Scarly hm, good point. we might have to modify the beds somewhat. Dx

and yup... though it's largely because they have aspirations of having a commercial tenant in the lobby itself at some point

which... I don't see happening, because it seems like it'd be really fucking weird, but... 🤷

@Chel
@scarly
Oh, that makes sense. It's a common pattern in Macau due to physical space constraints. It's neat because you have all these general-purpose shopping places, dentists, doctors, etc. right in your own neighbourhood due to them sharing space with your neighbours. You've sort of experienced this with Uwajimaya.

I wish they would do more mixed-use zoning here. Less time spent commuting is more time having fun.

@decis @Scarly mixed use apartments are awesome, tbh. Uwajimaya was an incredible experience in terms of being able to buy groceries right downstairs, and having restaurants and such all around us

I just wish it didn't seem to be limited to the most expensive places tbh

@Chel
@scarly
Yeah, I think the sheer uncommonality of mixed-use zoning and mixed-use buildings in this part of the world gives the few places that do it an excuse to raise prices. When it's common practice, it'll be the non-mixed-use buildings that command a price premium. Of course, profit-driven business don't WANT the expensive thing to become common because then they'd lose their competitive edge.

Sure would be nice if emphasis were on livability instead of profit.

@decis that would be absolutely lovely ;_;

but... sadly... capitalism, and stuff

@Chel
I like that her name is misspelled "Scarily" in this post, it seems apropos.

@decis oh crap I didn't even notice that.

I'd like to thank auto correct for uh... helping

(also, it does kinda doesn't it? x3)
