how does one calculate acceptable lengths for space elevators on other planets?

There's only one acceptable length because it has to be at the same speed as the planet's rotation, and speed dictates your orbital height.

ok well i think i calculated it'd take long enough to fall out of this thing for plenty of events to happen in a story i want to try writing
