Oh I also got a component cable for my PS2 and hooked it up. At first it didn't work but I figured out I needed to plug it in via scart first and then tell it to transmit an actual 720i signal through a component cable, THEN plug in the component cable and OH MY GOD it's CRYSTAL CLEAR

@Nine We're disappointed that gamecube component cables are so hard to get, the quality improvement is huge.

@Rosemary
I honestly don't know why I decided to try a scart to hdmi upscaler before because the quality was abysmal. On a modern TV it was actually worse than using the normal av cable.

I take it you want to avoid using Amazon to get a cable for the GC?

@Nine Well, it's more that the gamecube cable is extremely rare.

@Nine The cable has a chip in it that does some processing, so there aren't any third-party ones, and the official one saw a very limited release outside Japan.

@Rosemary
Wait really?? O_o so you can't just get a standard third party component cable because it won't properly work?? Jeez... That's pretty awful. I mean I've seen third party cables on Amazon fairly cheap but I take it if they don't have the chip in as well it doesn't work right? :(

@Nine We've never seen a third party one, if you know of one do link us!

@Rosemary
Oh bugger I just double checked and for some daft reason Amazon was recommending Nintendo Wii component hd cables -_-
