because if it's taking hits because you run into off screen foes suddenly, that... can still happen.

Also the backgrounds are VERY BUSY so it can get pretty hard to see what's going on sometimes and the levels and backgrounds are so lovingly rendered that it's... actually OVER done and sacrifices visual clarity at speed for prettiness that you'll barely see sometimes.
