Why does this Donkey Kong bootleg seem like a creepy pasta? Like there's no music where there should be. Fucked up music in other places. The environment is all fucked. There's what sounds like gunshots constantly going off. The colors are washed out and off-putting.

I genuinely thought for a moment you were being facetious but then I actually watched the video and I will never doubt you again holy crap that's creepy as hell

@Nine fucking ikr!? Also apparently there's a bunch of DK bootlegs specifically made to be dropped into Galaxian cabinets and hardware. I kinda wanna do a deep dive and see what's up with that.

@fillertrack
Jeez arcade bootlegging is a trip! There's something you miss with emulation there I guess, because the idea of just... Taking an existing cabinet, slapping another paint job on it and pulling out part of the board or replacing a particular couple of chips with a third party one to get a whole new game is like... Kinda cool??? Like "shit we can't afford to get this new arcade cabinet, but nobody plays this old one, buy a cheap knock-off!"

@Nine makes me pine for a play through a bunch of bootlegs like how Jeff Gerstmann did a bunch of different versions of arcade ports. Also shit like Street Fighter 2 Rainbow Edition that was so prominent it influenced the actual games development.

@fillertrack
Which reminds me there's a video game museum (playable too!) Coming to Sheffield in like, October?? So I'm wanting to check it out. I wonder if they'll have anything on arcade bootlegging??

Also YEAH!! I actually got to play rainbow edition on a real cabinet and it was SO COOL AND WEIRD!? For the longest time I was half convinced I dreamed it!

@Nine I hope it's cool and there's a bunch of weird stuff. Stuff like the Arcadia 2001. That thing is weird and was only on market for 18 months. Apparently had a version in Japan and had the first ever Macross and Dr. Slump games.

@fillertrack
Oh jeez now I hope so too. I'm super excited to go check it out sometime
