Was it ever properly established in the Harry Potter books that Nagini, Voldemorts snake, was just a human in animal mode the whole time? People talking about the shit ass character reveal in new Fantastic Beasts. I swear it was mentioned in the original books. Maybe I just imagined it and assumed she was transformed all the time since other characters were too.

Nagini was just a snake in the HP books. given she was a horcrux it stands to reason she'd be extra intelligent but at no point was it ever stated, implied, hinted, foreshadowed or even suggested explicitly or implicitly that she was an animagus that was just locked in animal form or anything like that.
she was just a big ass magical snake. x_x;
