@zac Akira is an odd film. It's... okay?? as a work of technical animation it's a masterpiece. It's BEAUTIFULLY shot, directed, animated and everything. As a story in and of itself it... basically is very cut down. the original manga spans six quite large volumes. The film takes all of volume 1 and 2, like, a third of 3, and the last 20 pages or so I guess of 6. so story wise it's lacking a looootttt.

@zac granted one of the problems I have with teh story as it is, is that it's got shades of imperialism which is always a bit "oof", but yeah

@zac It's a bit of a long haul, also if it's even possible it's... even MORE gory than the anime. i mean yikes o_o; I mean the shots that are from the manga are literally almost shot for shot remade in the anime, and super well. But WWWOOW it gets brutal fast.
Characters get way more developed though, but be prepped to be surprised that some side/minor background characters you saw in the anime are... wildly different.

@Nine it's *very* odd
the animation was fantastic and it was very well directed....however im not sure if it's just the dub, but it felt halting in some places, as thought it jumped around a bit much, but im not really sure where I would change cuts if I was to go back and change it.
the story felt really strange and knowing now that it wasn't even half of the actual story it makes sense. i also want to read the manga now haha :P
