Apparently Sonic 3 is contentious? Like apparently 2 is seen as the best? Idk 3 has always been the best to me and locked with Knuckles it’s a masterpiece. Fastest game, so much variety, music is the best, 3 playable characters, shields add to the game. There’s a reason Mania borrows so much from 3.

I ... I was under the impression that 3&K was like... the best. I can understand not liking 3 because it feels incomplete (because it is, it was originally meant to include the stuff from locking on S&K, but due to tech restraints at the time they had to split it into two carts, hence why the level select for just 3 on its own includes the zone names for the S&K zones), but saying 2 is better??? iiii dunno...
