German language learning

My current skills are as follows:
German as third language for 5 years in school, decent grades up until the last year where I decide to ignore it totally.

Hardly used it since, mostly as a passive listener or a buyer-of-food at Wacken Open Air once a year for 7 years.

Would reading a german translation of a Terry Pratchett book (specifically The Hogfather) be a good choice for upping my skills? Assume I like the book.

@zatnosk heck yeah the Hogfather is a great book.

also yeah I dunno if it is or not but everything I've heard says that "yeah this will help train your brain into language"... granted I suppose that depends entirely on which learning style works best for you, as not everyone learns in the same way

German language learning

@Nine I'm not sure what my learning style is in this regard, but I'm often pretty good at understanding and grasping partial concepts and explanations without understanding some advanced key word of the description (a trick learned from all the hours my big brother spent trying to teach me math from 3 grades above my level - aka all the stuff he learned in school. Most of which I only partially understood until years later (3 years, it was 3 years later))
