ive been thinking about whether of not video games need to be “fun” in order to be good recently

@Nine I watched that video the day it came out and would you believe it made me think more about the concept?
@Linda I can believe it! It made me go "...huh, maybe ag ame doesn't HAVE to be fun!" as well.
@Linda but also, on reflection, there's the realisation that "fun" is ... well it's a very personal thing.
The game isn't "fun". No game is inherently "fun". There are elements to every game and certain styles of gameplay that are typically fun for most people, but ... everyone is different. People find their OWN fun in things.
This is why shit like Skyrim and Fallout 3 and 4 are still so popular and why people buy Fallout 76 and ... seem to actually enjoy it. They DO find it fun.
@Linda I mean obviously for most it's not entertaining, they're broken, horrid, incomplete messes that you have to mod to hell (escepting 76 of course) to be even marginally interesting or playable, but... that in itself is fun too for a lot of people. Games can be fun, but that's not an intrinsic part of their nature. It's what people find in them that's fun.
