I don't know if he's that technically minded but even if he wasn't doing it because he wanted to spy on lgbtqia+ folks, he would choose it because "free speech". Though evidently he knows enough to block gab itself, if he even actually has.
Though likely that's a plausible deniability thing. Hence him not doing so to spinster.

Thinking about it, it's probably the people who run spinster who convinced him to make an instance in the first place. Including Nina Paley who's got an account there and also seems to be transphobia buddies with him.
Not to mention, spinster's a HEAVILY transphobic instance, and mainly uses feminism as a cover for that, so they're his kind of people.
