'datum' isn't a useful word, because since data isn't a countable noun, it can't be quantized down to any indivisible object other than a 'bit', which we already have a word for
i see 'datum' used by those knobbly academics to refer to e.g. a 'data point'. so is the y-coord of that point also a 'datum'? is the whole dataset also a 'datum' then, if a 'datum' can be a set? 'datum'??? more like dat-dumb !!!!!!
@jk i find "datum" to be useful because i can justifiably call data "datums" when i'm feeling silly
