They are entitlement programs. I've paid into Social Security since I was 12 years old, washing dishes in a restaurant. I've worked for decades now, always paying my full share into SSI. I'm entitled to that money - it's mine. Until the 80s, when Ronnie decided it was OK to treat the SSI fund as a piggy bank that could be raided, it was fine. Better than fine, it was great. Then Republicans decided to swap funds for IOUs, and now they don't want to pay it back.
Tough shit for them.
