I read an article that explained the top marginal US federal tax rate wasn't *really* that much higher (at 91%) than it is now, because hardly anyone paid that rate.
It ignored that CEOs didn't get paid 1200x the median salary at their companies, that paying themselves that would be pointless because they wouldn't be able to keep it, that the tax rate served to limit executive greed, and lower consumer costs for everyone.
