@drfunkybutt I don’t think it’s against mastodon etiquette to recommend people to follow.

All that you’re doing is telling people about another person whose content they may enjoy while simultaneously letting the content creator know that you like what they’re doing.

It seems like a nice thing to do, as long as the intentions are genuine.
