@StillIRise1963 My deceased, very white, (unconsciously?) racist in-laws named their Labrador retriever "Obama" specifically because the dog was black. I just could not wrap my head around that level of bigotry.
If your parents were like mine, they didn't acknowledge it as racism. When I pointed it out and explained it to them, they said I was over reacting, and just nit-picking.
@ScottSoCal@StillIRise1963 My in-laws never acknowledged it either. "Our best friends were Black" was an oft-repeated refrain, and 20 years ago I didn't have the vocabulary to interrogate that.
