The variety originated from a mutation treatment by x-rays on unrooted cuttings in a laboratory environment in the Netherlands on the source variety: ‘PEHY0044’ (PP 32,368).

When they were doing above-ground nuclear explosion testing, they'd tell the surrounding population to go out and look at the pretty sunsets, as the radioactive cloud passed over. They later collected medical information about the cancer clusters in those areas and used them to develop modern radioactivity exposure guidelines.
