People have used that phrase "not all superheroes wear capes" at lot in the last few years but superheroes are also the ONLY people who wear capes and, if they didn't, most of us wouldn't know what a fucking cape IS because we have coats now and superheroes can't be bothered to put on a coat because they need to be all garish when they selflessly serve humanity, I guess.

If superheroes were real but there were no superhero comic books validating their weirdly vocation-specific fashion choice, the first thing any criminal confronted by a superhero would say is "Are - are you wearing a CAPE?'"

If you're trying to figure out another non-superhero cape circumstance to validate capes, it's Dracula. Your choices are Dracula and superheroes. And he's, what, 600 years old? He fought the Ottoman Empire. So not a super-contemporary point of reference there.

No, not ALL superheroes wear capes but, if one DOES decide to become a crime-fighting vigilante, it's still pretty weird that one's first priority is to decide whether or not your look is going to incorporate archaic and inefficient outerwear.
