I think "respect hierarchy" is a conservative value. Likely the idea that people would get to higher positions because they know more, are smarter etc.
I have respect for knowledgable people, and for people will skills. Not for people with titles.
(Which made it confusing in the past for me when I said/wrote down something obviously wrong and nobody "lower" on the hierarchy corrected me...)
