My entire adult life, I've heard "You know he was flirting with you, don't you?" about cashiers, waiters, people standing near me in lines.
No, I don't know that. I've never known that. I've seen flirting in movies, but he didn't do any of those things. Hubs spent 6 months saying "So when are you going to ask me out?", but he was a bartender, he obviously didn't mean it. Until he told me he did.

Many t years ago I was on holiday with my gf in a bar and she flipped, accusing me of flirting with two women on the other side of the room who were playing pool.
As well a defending my genuine innocence I was thinking, wow I can flirt? What did I do that looked like flirting?
@doggle @ScottSoCal @actuallyautistic an insecure and jealous partner may have a tendency to project and believe you're trying to flirt even if all you've done is look that direction more than once. Considering how busy pool tables can be, I would be surprised if the game itself didn't attract your attention? Since NT's can tune that stuff out, they often get confused when we can't and think our distraction is conscious attention-giving
@doggle @ScottSoCal @actuallyautistic While I'm very much not mad about it, I've had an uphill battle to convince my autistic spouse that he's a total flirt. He's very complimentary towards people (in a very effective, happy-making way) and has a way of really centering his attention on people. I bring it up to him only to make sure he's not surprised by it or unaware of people's reactions.
It doesn't sound like this was your girlfriend's intention, but it does sound like maybe you're more effective at centering your attention on people than you realize?

One con I attended had a morning session on how to meet people romantically. Around 40 in the room during self-introductions person opposite me said they'd been flirting with me for ages in the bar the previous night but I'd totally blanked them. Others nodded that they had noticed.
I DIDN'T KNOW! I thought they were just being friendly!
I now have a badge (pin) which says "Flirt blind. Make it clear".
