I just had a situation where an infodump (a proper one) not only didn't get shut down, it helped.
On the phone with a company vendor, trying to explain a problem, and side-tracked into what it was going into, where it would be going, why this wasn't just a small problem, it was a very big f**king problem.
He thanked me - said he now understood, and would get to work on a solution immediately. That felt good.
😁

@ScottSoCal @actuallyautistic That's great. I've contacted a-company-that-shall-not-be-named about a bug.

They fixed it.

Then the bug came back.

They fixed it.

Then the bug came back.

They fixed it.

Then the bloody bug came back.

My last interaction with them was to tell them that the bug is back and that maybe they should ask their engineers if they've ever heard of "regression testing."

(For those who don't know: regression testing is a way to make sure that bugs that have been fixed don't come back.)

When I bought my electronic shower (yes, that's a real thing) it had a bug that popped up. I worked up to the third tier of tech support (the programmers) and told them it looked like a firmware bug. They didn't like that, they wanted failing hardware. We gradually replaced all the hardware, a piece at time, until I had a brand new shower. And the bug. Turned out it was a firmware issue. 😲
They fixed it, and it hasn't come back, fortunately.
