When do you stop the microwave, toaster oven, alarm clock, etc. to prevent that awful sound?

It's not true, there's no radiation (the way that word is commonly used). Microwaves are just a frequency of radio waves, like AM or FM.
@ScottSoCal @essie_is_okay @JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic in any case the electromagnetic waves propagate at the speed of light and are cut off by the door-open button at the same speed, so unless there's a malfunction in the button switch the instant that there's a crack in the door the microwaves will stop, and even with a crack microwaves are absorbed by the doorframe (by the same metal in the perforated window) so the danger is negligible.
It's decent practice for tools in general though.
@ScottSoCal @essie_is_okay @JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic by which I mean that sometimes people will, like, hit the emergency stop button to stop power tools instead of using the off switch, and then have to replace the button more often. (The door open button on a microwave is the #1 thing that breaks by the way: it's a plastic lever that slides, and encounters a lot of abuse from slamming doors and aggressive pushing.) So using things gently as designed usually reduces damage
@ScottSoCal @essie_is_okay @JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic And your router is emitting the same frequency range (2-5ghz) as you mw oven. The amount of power is what makes the oven cook things while your router does not.
