Is developing a Minecraft mod in 2023 worth it with how Microsoft is handling things?
@SteelWool i honestly think it isnt…
@haui may you elaborate?
@haui I mean nobody is forcing people to use bedrock over java if you have access to both. Doing that would piss off a huge chunk of their player base (primarily PC), which is not good for business.
Bedrock is a cross-platform recreation of Java for the most part. While maintaining one version only would certainly be cheaper, it would not work out favorably for them if they drop Java altogether due to the modding community.
@haui well yeah, being on consoles and mobiles means A) most players will be on those platforms since they're more accessible than computers, and B) there will be lots of kids there, which I assume parents prefer as a safer alternative
@SteelWool absolutely. But packing it to the brim with microtransactions is a deliberate choice by mojang/microsoft.
@SteelWool
I hope you‘re right. Seeing how the absolute majority of new players in servers goes through bedrock and is so young that they’re not able to make informed financial decisions I‘d wager that Minecraft is only going downhill from here.
