What I expect to think: "Oh god, *yes*, this is me" as barriers melt and you see my gender euphoria glow from fucking space
What I actually think: "Oh, this feels neat" as I just go about my business
The latter is normal, right?

Sorry, I have a terrible habit of trying to figure out the "signs and symptoms" of gender problems.
I keep forgetting it never works like that.

There isn't a way that you're supposed to feel for these things. "Not horrible" is the main thing that should be hoped for. Take every level higher than that as a blessing.
