Also, if you live in the States and have the time and money, I ABSOLUTELY believe you should go on a cross-country road trip.

There are a LOT of things I hate about America, but the land? That's not one of them.

@witchfynder_finder yeah when i drove between pennsylvania and louisiana both times i took a non-toll route that took me through some scenic areas, was really nice, especially through TN, KY, WV, MD, PA

@amelia That weird boundary between the east coast and the midwest and the south is one of the coolest places around, IMO.

@witchfynder_finder highways that carve straight through rock and forest, where the faces of hills just kind of envelop you as you drive through them

@witchfynder_finder like in particular i recall one segment, i forget where i was, where these rock faces in these hills just kind of rose up on either side of me and i was in awe

also, pennsylvania highways where you can look off to the side and straight down into a valley

@amelia Missouri has some really good sections of road like that, too. Driving along and then these rock faces just Happen on either side of you. Then you cross a state border and they're gone.

@witchfynder_finder part of my route cut straight through a section of the daniel boone national forest, so i was on this elevated stretch of interstate with only the barest of necessary civilization to keep travelers moving

@amelia I do also love those stretches of road, where there's just nothing but the land around you. Unless it's in Nebraska, because the land out there is just flat and it sucks.
