TIL the UK's pre-decimal currency came by way of France, but not through Normandy. The Carolingian Empire adopted it, & Offa of Mercia brought it to what would become England 150 years later.
20 shillings to the pound,
12 pence to the shilling, &
2 halfpence or 4 farthings to the penny.
TIL the US used it until 1792.
