@sean_ae yeah i sorta drift into a flow state when playing them, it's satisfying to weave through everything without getting hit. not so great at those bullet hell games myself but i do love playing them for the challenge. are there any else you've played that stand out to you? i'm always looking for something new to try.
@atlasstorm most of the cave titles are worth a look
@sean_ae cheers yeah i love me some cave
@sean_ae https://youtu.be/Y1MBZA7w9YQ this sort of shit is mesmerizing to me, i love the artistry that goes into the bullet patterns & the skill it takes to memorize them. apparently this boss took people 10 years to beat on a credit
@atlasstorm yeah it's not normal
there was a guy who worked for beatink, we were out at a bowling alley and there was a console of one of these and he was just incredible at it, i was deeply humbled
@sean_ae what gets me is how niche all this stuff is, so much work goes into creating things that not many people will see, let alone beat. it feels like a pure example of the developers having full faith in player skill and being able to deliver a crazy challenge without compromising on their vision. very special sort of thing
@atlasstorm yeah it's deeply artistic imo
@sean_ae reckon it's harder to make something like this profitable in arcades now though. the industry has just shifted a lot. but you see this sort of thing in indie development, people inspired by cave games and whatnot. interesting to see people mimic the style very closely but in a home gaming context. it gets even more niche as a passion project deal
@atlasstorm idk, prob not cos i've not played it for ages but i still have a few of those kinda games on my phone
i like the state i drift into when playing them but i wouldn't say i was very good at it. it's a bit like cleaning or something
