So, the other day, I pulled apart a little microUSB charger that came with a cheap flip phone, hoping I could turn it into a cheap 5v supply. It turns out that it's actually just a generic USB charger that someone soldered a microUSB cable onto. Like, the case is even designed to accommodate a USB socket. So, assuming I haven't fried it trying to solder alligator clips on, I think I may try to turn it into a USB charger later. I did notice those are in short supply around here the other day...
Of course, if you're gonna not use a socket for cost, why have the USB outlet sized hole? Perhaps they have other chargers that do provide a socket with separate cable? I honestly don't know. It's certainly weird.
