Today in "Stupid things Kat's done":
I soldered some alligator clip leads onto a 5V power supply, then clipped those leads onto the plugs for the socket and plugged it in. Shortly after, there was a pop and a flash. It turned out, the negative lead had blown right off. It might have also blown the Schottky diode being used for rectification on the output side, given that the max reverse voltage is 40V and I might've passed 120V across it in reverse. Not sure.
