It can't be because they're commies. A lot of these refugees sided with the Americans during that war.

@ExperimentV @acrata that's the thing, almost all of them are capitalists under the old colonialist system and they fled from the incoming revolutionaries (who I will admit are nothing but sexist and homophobic brocialists and traditionalists)

@ExperimentV @acrata I'm not even all that surprised if these very people voted for Trump and it bit them in the ass in the end. A lot of Asian Americans are notoriously reactionaries.

I can't speak for all Asian Americans, but I can (kinda?) support this anecdotally. My grandma (from Thailand) voted for the orange buffoon that haunts my nightmares because she LIKES his immigration policies. "If I came here legally, so can they." At least in my family, it's a cultural sense of "justice". And its narrow. My grandma isn't going to sympathize with the deported, they're not her people in her eyes.

I CAN say that it seems to be getting a lot better with younger generations though, and as this is purely my observations that no one asked for, your mileage may vary.
