After using an iPad Pro with 120hz refresh rate screen I can safely say I do not give a single fuck if I have a phone with a 120hz screen.
I’m having zero problems going from iPad to iPhone. Maybe it would be different if I used a phone sized screen with a high refresh rate but right now my iPhone still feels like the smoothest phone I’ve ever used and I’m not thinking “damn, I can’t believe I could be doomscrolling at twice the smoothness”

Genuine question: What are you doing in a phone that NEEDS 120hz refresh rate? I get that it’s nice and some people say they need the highest refresh rate possible because they can see the janky animations and it gives them headaches but like, is it just playing games? Scrolling Twitter and Instagram? I do not know any use cases. It just feels like tech youtubers once again saying “big number is better

@evie on the iPad it helps with the Apple Pencil. Maybe they’re adding Pencil support to the iPhone 12?

@sanspoint the latest rumor is (I think?) only the pro max will have a 120hz screen? I’m mostly wondering for the inevitable “another year another iPhone without a 120hz screen I can’t believe apple gets away with this” as if general phone buyers care?
It’s like complaining about the size of the notch or the screen resolution being “not even 1080p” on the Xr/11, it feels like one of those things only tech youtubers actually care about and 9/10 phone buyers are like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@evie It's good for multitasking. I appreciate being able to torrent, use Waze, time for 20 minutes, and look at the latest tweets at the same time.

If I'm somewhere with WiFi I would add playing video to that, since Android has Picture-in-Picture

I also like the trend of new intermediary systems and devices allowing you to utilize smartphones into full desktop form factors

@evie Remember; multitasking was one of those things consumers wanted but Apple scoffed at, until Android got it working 1st forcing Apple's hand to enable the same

So there's tons of incremental improvements like these that will find their utility and audience even if it's not evident when it gets introduced

@evie my best guess has been 120fps videos

for me I just like the smoother scrolling when reading in Pocket

@evie recording 120fps videos I mean. Slowmo videos have been real popular these days.
